KSRTC is set to open a new driving school at its Irinjalakuda operating center, aiming to provide quality driving lessons at an affordable cost. This initiative follows the successful operation of KSRTC driving schools in Chalakudy and Guruvayoor, which have proven to be profitable ventures for the corporation. The plan was recently announced by Minister Dr. R. Bindu at a meeting of the Mukundapuram Taluk Development Committee.
The Irinjalakuda KSRTC bus stand at Kandeshwaram is well-equipped with the necessary infrastructure for a driving school. It boasts ample space for driving practice, parking facilities, and an existing building suitable for an office.
The new driving school will offer training for two-wheelers, three-wheelers, four-wheelers, and heavy vehicles. The operating center has already submitted a proposal to the minister regarding the requirements for these training programs.
KSRTC’s driving schools are known for their competitive pricing, offering lower fees compared to private driving schools in the state. The fee for car driving lessons is ₹9,000, which is also the same for heavy vehicle training. Two-wheeler training costs ₹3,500, with the same rate applying to both geared and non-geared motorcycles. A special package combining car and two-wheeler training is available for ₹11,000.
In addition to the driving school, the Irinjalakuda KSRTC center is undergoing further development. The government has allocated ₹3 crore for the construction of a bus parking shelter and a bus bay with an auditorium above it, as part of broader development initiatives.
